Tencent technology news on March 2, market research company DIGITIMES research pointed out in a research report released on Tuesday that thanks to the strong sales of iPhone 12 pro and iPhone 12 Pro max, as well as the increased shipment of Chinese smartphone manufacturers in order to seize the market share given up by Huawei, the global total shipment of smartphones in the first quarter is expected to grow nearly 50% year on year to 340 million units.
DIGITIMES research estimates that Apple’s iPhone shipment is expected to exceed 60 million units in the first quarter. With the shipment of more than 90 million units in the fourth quarter of last year, Apple’s iPhone shipment will exceed 150 million units in half a year, a year-on-year increase of 38%, making it the world’s largest Smartphone manufacturer. DIGITIMES research estimates that Apple’s success means that in the first quarter of 2021, the global smartphone market will ship 340 million units, up 50% year-on-year.
In the same period, Samsung Electronics ranked second in terms of shipment volume, with an estimated shipment volume of 60 million to 65 million units in both the fourth quarter of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021. Xiaomi ranks third, and its shipment is expected to reach 90 million units, with a year-on-year increase of more than 80%. Meanwhile, Huawei will ship less than 20 million units, ranking sixth among global smartphone manufacturers.
According to DIGITIMES research, global 5g mobile phone shipments are expected to exceed 600 million this year, far exceeding 280 million in 2020. Huawei, apple and Samsung Electronics are the top three manufacturers of 5g mobile phones in 2020, accounting for more than 70% of global 5g mobile phone shipments. Apple launched the 5g iPhone 12 series at the end of 2020, so part of the growth in 2021 is due to the launch of the new iPhone. According to DIGITIMES research, the increase is also due to Chinese manufacturers increasing production to capture Huawei’s previous market share. DIGITIMES research also predicts that global smartphone shipments this year are expected to exceed 1.4 billion, up 10% to 13% from last year.
Another market analyst pointed out that Apple’s iPhone 12 series device is currently the best-selling 5g model in the U.S. market. In terms of the international market, Apple’s iPhone shipments in India have doubled. (compiled by Tencent technology / Wuji)
