Sina digital news on July 10 morning news, according to Gartner’s latest share of PC shipment report, global PC shipment is expected to grow by 2.8% in the second quarter of 2020, and Apple Mac shipment is expected to increase by 5.1%. It should be noted that this data is an estimate, not the actual shipment.
Gartner 2020 second quarter global PC supplier shipment forecast (1000 units)
Apple’s MAC shipments in the second quarter of 2020 are estimated to be 4.368 million, up from 4.157 million in the second quarter of 2019. Even in the context of the global epidemic, Apple’s shipments are still growing.
Apple’s market share rose to 6.7% in the quarter from 6.6% in the same period last year. While Apple’s shipment increased, the overall PC market grew by 2.8%.
Apple continues to maintain its position as the world’s fourth largest PC manufacturer, following Lenovo, HP and Dell. Lenovo was the largest PC manufacturer in the quarter, with 16.197 million units shipped, accounting for 25% of the market share, followed by HP, which shipped 16.165 million units with a market share of 24.9%.
Apple market share trend
Dell is the third largest manufacturer with 10.648 million units, with a market share of 16.4%. However, Dell is the only manufacturer with a declining shipment. Acer shipped 4.007 million units and ASUS 3.593 million units, both of which lagged behind apple.
Gartner forecasts U.S. PC market shipments in the second quarter of 2020 (1000 units)
Apple’s MAC shipments in the United States also increased, with 2 million Macs shipped in the second quarter of 2020, up 4.3% from 1.9 million in the second quarter of 2019. Apple also continues to be the fourth largest manufacturer in the United States, behind HP, Dell and Lenovo. U.S. PC overall shipment also increased by 4.6% year-on-year.
Gartner believes that the growth in PC shipments in the quarter was mainly due to the increase in the number of people working at home and the demand for online education, which Gartner does not expect to continue.
Interestingly, another big data research organization, IDC, also released a report on PC shipment, but the reports of the two analysis institutions are quite different. Apple shipped 5.6 million Macs in the second quarter of 2020, up 36% from the estimated 4.1 million in the second quarter of 2019, according to IDC.
IDC believes that the global PC market as a whole grew by 11.2%, with a total shipment of 72.3 million units, compared with 64.8 million units from Gartner.
It is worth noting that the data from Gartner and IDC are estimates and do not reflect Apple’s actual sales. This is also the reason for the big difference between the two data. (Yu Ze)
