The electric car is millions more expensive than Model 3, but its endurance is killed in seconds.

Speaking of Porsche, what kind of car do you think of?
Is it 911 that everyone loves? Is Boxster the first choice for a ride? Or a Cayenne on behalf of SUV? Or the hybrid 918 Spyder? Everyone has his own section in his heart.
Now Porsche will make history again: the 70-year-old car company has brought its first pure electric vehicle, Taycan.
Classic Porsche design with electric drive
From the appearance, you can see that Taycan is a Porsche: the whole body uses a lot of lines, the front of the two front wheels protrudes high, and the headlights are placed in it; the sliding back design extends from the roof to the parking space, and the arc rear of the car is embedded with striking through taillights and Porsche signs.
In addition to the classic elements since 911, Taycan also has a unique design as an electric vehicle. The 2*2 matrix headlights and color bump bar hubs in Mission E concept cars have also been successfully mass-produced. They all officially appeared on Taycan, which makes the model different from classical Porsche.
The interior is also integrated with a large number of modern elements while adhering to the consistent style of Porsche. The new 911 racing steering wheel, mechanical watch on the central console and other elements announce its brand. It is equipped with leather, interior with recyclable materials, simple layout of functional areas and four overly eye-catching screens, which together constitute the driving experience of the car.
Porsche’s products are not only attractive, but also often have good performance performance. There is no exception to Taycan’s conversion from internal combustion engine to electric drive. This car is Porsche’s ultimate challenge in electric vehicles, and the engineering team is building a unique and amazing pure electric power system.
According to official data, the power of Taycan Turbo system is 460 kW (625 horsepower), supercharged power 500 kW (680 horsepower), 850 Nm torque, 2305 kg weight and extreme speed 260 km/h. The performance-enhanced Taycan Turbo S is 1050 Nm torque and 560 kW (761 hp) supercharged power.
Taycan’s electric system is still far away from Porsche 911 at extreme speed, but it’s more explosive: Taycan Turbo’s zero-100 acceleration is 3.2 seconds, and Taycan Turbo S only takes 2.8 seconds, which is too fast to react.
Taycan based on Panamera platform is also four doors and four seats. Mainstream electric vehicles will put a whole battery pack on the bottom of the car to ensure a longer range, but also affect the back space. In order to maintain a better ride experience, Porsche specially emptied the foot pit in the back row, and the height of the car body was 14 cm lower than that of the flat battery pack.
The decision of the size of the battery pack to make way for comfort has somewhat affected the vehicle’s mileage. The WLTP data of the 93kWh battery is 381-450 kilometers, and the NEDC data released temporarily is only 465 kilometers. If you want to use it to travel between Chongqing and Chengdu, you have to think about whether you need to turn on the air conditioner all the way.
Fortunately, such achievements are enough for city travel and track activities, and Porsche has injected a lot of technical highlights to fill in. The two permanent magnet synchronous motors and two-speed gearboxes need not say too much, which makes Taycan’s driving sense equally excellent and inherits the flavor of the classic Porsche sports car.
Taycan’s greatest feature is 800V high-voltage charging, which not only reduces the use of lithium batteries, but also gives electric vehicles a real fast charging. In the high power charging mode, it takes only 30 minutes to complete 5%~80% of the charging. Even if the current national standard limits the maximum charging power to 200 kW, it can also charge for five minutes and last for 100 kilometers.
Pricing is expensive, but performance is not high enough
To put it this way, Taycan has done what electric cars have never done before. Is it a worthy luxury electric sports car? I don’t think so. It’s not controversial as a luxury sports car, but as an electric car or a new energy car, there are still many regrets.
To mention the electric vehicle, the key word of intellectualization is indispensable. Whether it is Tesla, which popularizes the concept of electric vehicle, or a new force of domestic car-making, or an old car factory which tries to enter the era of electric vehicle, intellectualization will be a big selling point of its electric vehicle.
Higher-level automatic driving is cool, but the capabilities of manufacturers vary.
It’s impossible for a car factory to show off the muscles of self-driving. Car factories think of curve salvation: Tesla is not a big central control screen, it follows the large screen, and the number of more than one. Go to Taycan and install four screens directly.
A 16.8-inch fully curved screen opposite the driver’s seat digitizes Porsche’s classic circular dashboard. In addition to speed and driving mode, real-time maps, lights, wipers and other driving-related information will be displayed on this screen.
The console has two upper and lower screens, the 10.9-inch screen similar to the traditional one, which can turn on navigation, play music or make phone calls. The 8.4-inch vertical screen below focuses on air conditioning control. Porsche’s matching spirit has been developed again, and a screen of the same size can be selected for the co-driver. What can it do?
In addition to controlling the vehicle, other functions are exactly the same as the central control. There is no video playback or other multimedia entertainment. You know, many years ago, there were entertainment screens for the co-driver, let alone the ideal ONE with four screens, which integrates many entertainment functions and allows people to chase the drama online.

Auto-driving hasn’t been the highlight of Taycan either, and Porsche admits that the car’s auto-driving capability is at most Level 2. Porsche has to figure out what to do with the “Input Destination, Full Auto Drive” level already shown in Standard Sla Autopiolt 3.0. At least Taycan owners need to figure out how to drive.
Intelligent part does not play its advantage as an electric vehicle, even if, at the Taycan’s core selling point, it seems that there are few places to compete with rivals. In terms of location and price, Taycan’s actual parameters for the Standard Sla Model S are not much better than the high-performance version of Model 3, which costs less than a third of the price.
Model 3 has a high performance version lasting 595 km, a maximum speed of 261 km/h, a zero acceleration of 3.4 seconds, and a selling price of 500,000 RMB; Taycan Turbo has a range of 465 km (NEDC), a maximum speed of 260 km/h, a zero acceleration of 3.2 seconds and a selling price of 1.5 million RMB.
Ultimately, it has to be Porsche.
From the point of view of electric vehicles, only the Porsche logo, as well as the inheritance of the classic and bold innovative body, more comfortable and high-grade interior unique driving experience. If you don’t agree with the Porsche brand, it will become worthless.
You say 800V charging? Sorry, the corresponding ultra-fast charging piles will only appear at Porsche charging station in a short time, and their garage will still have to use 11 kW or 7.2 kW charging piles.
Of course, Taycan’s performance as a sports car is not to be said. Generally, electric vehicles can not start with continuous ejection. This kind of operation will accelerate the aging of battery modules, and then cause performance degradation. Porsche officials carried out 26 successive 0-200 km/h ejection start experiments, with the greatest difference of no more than 0.8 seconds. This shows the efforts of the engineering team.
It even has the ability to compete: Porsche conducted a 24-hour continuous track driving test, and eventually ran 3424.8 kilometers. Taycan’s reliability and durability have been verified in this race, as long as it is not a endurance race, it can compete with the fuel car. Porsche has never lost its dignity in making sports cars.
With regard to Taycan, we can give a preliminary view: first, it’s a Porsche, then an electric car.
As far as the popularity of electric vehicles is concerned, the existence of Taycan is of little significance, not only expensive, but also poor performance. But as a Porsche, it is excellent. Taycan’s positioning has been an electric sports car from the beginning. The original experience of Porsche sports car is the soul. Electricity is just the way to drive it.
How to solve the endurance anxiety of electric vehicles and how to naturally walk into thousands of households like fuel vehicles are the things that other models should consider.
