Apple is still interested in using off-screen fingerprints on the iPhone. It is expected that the new iPhone in 2021 will use off-screen fingerprints, but Apple will not give up the old Face ID. Therefore, on the new iPhone in 2021, there will be a coexistence of off-screen fingerprints and Face ID.
Guo said that the off-screen fingerprint is one of the most popular new features of Android mobile phones in 2019. It is expected that the shipment of Android mobile phones equipped with off-screen fingerprints will be 2000-25 million in 2018, 26-28 million in 2019 and 37-400 million in 2020. Underscreen fingerprints are widely welcomed because they strike a balance between security and convenience.
Although the current biometric scheme for the iPhone is Face ID, Guo said that according to the fact that Apple has applied for patents related to off-screen fingerprints, it is believed that Apple is still interested in using off-screen fingerprints for the iPhone. In terms of technological development, Guo predicts that in the next year to a year and a half, four key technologies of offline fingerprint will be significantly improved, including module thickness, induction area, power consumption and fit yield.
Guo predicted that Apple would launch a new iPhone with fingerprints on the screen in 2021. Guo explained that Face ID and offline fingerprint technology complement each other rather than compete.
