Sina Technologies News, August 5, afternoon news, Tianfeng International analyst Guo Mingpi said in his latest research report today that because the screen fingerprint has found a balance between security and convenience, it has been widely welcomed. Apple is still interested in using off-screen fingerprints on the iPhone. It is expected that the new iPhone in 2021 will use off-screen fingerprints, but Apple will not give up the old Face ID. Therefore, on the new iPhone in 2021, there will be a coexistence of off-screen fingerprints and Face ID.
Guo said that the off-screen fingerprint is one of the most popular new features of Android mobile phones in 2019. It is expected that the shipment of Android mobile phones equipped with off-screen fingerprints will be 2000-25 million in 2018, 26-28 million in 2019 and 37-400 million in 2020. Underscreen fingerprints are widely welcomed because they strike a balance between security and convenience.
Although the current biometric scheme for the iPhone is Face ID, Guo said that according to the fact that Apple has applied for patents related to off-screen fingerprints, it is believed that Apple is still interested in using off-screen fingerprints for the iPhone. In terms of technological development, Guo predicts that in the next year to a year and a half, four key technologies of offline fingerprint will be significantly improved, including module thickness, induction area, power consumption and fit yield.
Guo predicted that Apple would launch a new iPhone with fingerprints on the screen in 2021. However, Guo said that Apple would not give up the old Face ID, so the new iPhone in 2021 will also have the function of Face ID, that is, on the new iPhone in 2021, there will be the coexistence of fingerprint and Face ID on the screen.
Guo explained that Face ID and offline fingerprint technology complement each other rather than compete. Off-screen fingerprints can provide more convenient authentication in specific contexts, such as when it is inconvenient to use a Face ID, or when wearing an AR/VR device, he said. The coexistence of offline fingerprints and Face ID in 2021 iPhones will improve the security and convenience of the iPhone due to its multiple biometric functions.
Guo Mingpi also said that in terms of technology, if Apple Watch wants to introduce biometrics in the future, it has a higher probability of using fingerprints under the screen than Face ID.
Guo Mingpi believes that among all the current off-screen fingerprint technologies, Apple is most likely to adopt Qualcomm’s large-area ultrasound technology, while GIS is both the original supplier of Apple and the developer of Qualcomm’s ultrasound fingerprint strategy, so it may provide ultrasound modules and fittings.
Therefore, Guo concluded that he believed that the iPhone would use a large area of ultrasound screen fingerprints, which would hopefully benefit GIS and Qualcomm significantly. In the future, there will be more Android high-end mobile phones using a large area of ultrasound screen fingerprints. (Morning light)
