According to Reuters, Facebook last week added the brand name “Facebook” to its photo-sharing platform Instagram to show users the company’s ownership of the popular platform.
Facebook is facing increasingly stringent scrutiny from global regulators to improve data privacy management and transparency with whom or how Facebook shares user data. To this end, Facebook has taken a number of initiatives, including adding brand names to Instagram.
The location of the “Instagram from Facebook” (Instagram under Facebook) logo is not conspicuous. On iOS devices, users can see small gray characters at the bottom of the Instagram application settings page.
“We want to communicate more clearly to the outside world which products and services belong to Facebook,” a company spokesman told Reuters.
Facebook acquired Instagram in 2012. Today, Instagram has more than 1 billion users.
Instagram has not been involved in any privacy scandal at its parent company, and the platform has a huge appeal to young consumers, which makes it more popular with advertisers. So Instagram is becoming more and more important in increasing Facebook revenue. (Xiaobai)
